SEED OF POTENTIAL
‘A seed hidden in the heart of an apple is an orchard invisible’ - Welsh Proverb

Size of the artwork (including UV perspex box): 27 x 41cm
3D collage of my scanned original oil painting, printed on Hahnemühle paper, cut-outs on foam
A friend of mine, who worked with refugees, pointed me towards an organisation that was auctioning artworks to raise money.

I decided to contribute by creating an oil painting of an apple.

This apple was picked from the tree in our back garden by our son, who brought it inside just as it was, leaves and all. The tree was given to us for our first wedding anniversary. When we moved homes, we dug it up and planted it in our current garden, where it is now thriving.

I liked the symbolism of putting down new roots, and I thought it was a fitting theme. On the sides of the artwork, I painted the Welsh proverb, “A seed hidden in the heart of an apple is an orchard invisible.” It’s a beautiful idea, and this painting represents how a simple 'seed' or 'idea' can grow and flourish into an 'orchard' of one's dreams.

I have now created a 3D version of this painting, with a portion of the proceeds going to an organisation that supports refugees.
